Millers Mutual Group has sold 805 N. Front Street, on the corner of Front and Forester Streets in Harrisburg. The landmark riverfront office building was purchased by the Harrisburg Area YMCA.
“The Iconic building on Front Street in Harrisburg, PA, has served us well since 1937, and it will always be an important part of our history and legacy,” said Scott Orndorff, President and CEO. “We are pleased to sell to the Harrisburg Area YMCA, as we know the selling of our building will be beneficial to the community.”
Starting with the company founding in 1890, Millers Mutual has leased office space, moving repeatedly to larger quarters as its needs grew. In early 1936, the directors approved the purchase of the Front Street lot. An Open House was held in April of 1937, with all local newspapers covering the event and referring to the building as “Harrisburg’s newest landmark.”
Millers Mutual has once again outgrown its quarters. For now, the Company plans to stay put until the right opportunity arises. Art Campbell and Jessica Gasper from Campbell Commercial Real Estate handled the sale and are working on behalf of Millers Mutual Group to identify and evaluate options for their eventual relocation.
“We are very appreciative of the Harrisburg Area YMCA for leasing the building back to us,” said Katie Gouldner, Corporate Communications Specialist. “This will give us the opportunity to take our time searching for a building that is the right fit for Millers.”
The YMCA has enjoyed a long and positive relationship with our neighbors at Millers Mutual Group, and is pleased to acquire the Millers Mutual Group building and property,” said YMCA President and CEO Richard Curl, adding “The Y’s primary interest in the property is to assure additional parking for our East Shore YMCA members, eventually move the YMCA’s corporate offices into the building, and preserve one of the beautiful gateway entrances of our City.”
The East Shore Branch YMCA, formerly known as the Central YMCA, opened in 1933 and has long been recognized for its Italian Romanesque design and diverse services along Front Street in Harrisburg. With generations of families having enjoyed YMCA activities, the East Shore Branch YMCA today, is a full facility Y, offering extensive aquatics, health & fitness, sports & recreational activities, mentoring, child care, day camps and subsidized housing services. The Harrisburg Area YMCA is nationally recognized as the 9th oldest YMCA system in the United States, having continuously served Harrisburg and the region since 1854.
